Women are suckers for romance.
Need proof? You do hundreds of things for them, calling them up all the time, taking them out for dinners and holiday retreats, you buy them presents, flowers, give them Starbucks gift cards…and then at the end of it all, they look you in the eyes and ask, "Do you really love me?"
Contents
What can we conclude from this? You need to say it time and again, "I love you!" and tell them how special they are to you and what they mean to you.
There's one way to do this and it usually works like a charm. If you do it right, they'll be not only impressed, but entertained and honoured that you took the time. And that is…write your girl a song!
Think about the moments that you two have spent together. The high points in your relationship, or the first time that you felt that she is the one for you. Maybe the first time you kissed, or did "it".
Think about your first fight, and then how you made up afterwards. All this will serve as an inspiration for you to write some very heartfelt lyrics for your special gal.
Another thing you can do is listen to some of the greatest love songs ever written. Motown stuff always does the trick. Many of those songs are timeless classics.
Jump on the internet and browse around, you're bound to find some real gems that you can use to inspire your own classic love song. Here's Al Green to show us how it's done…
Try to break down exactly how the songwriter goes about building the song and try to follow the way he or she constructed the song. With Al Green, there is certainly a lot you can learn from him alone.
As long as you aren't straight up ripping off a song, you should be in good standing with your own love song. Just grab a pen and paper and see what happens!
All women love it when the man in their life tells them how pretty they are. So, another way to go about writing lyrics is to praise her beauty.
If it's her sparkling eyes that stand out the most, mention them in the song lyrics. If she has a cute nose or an overbite that you dig, them about them in the most flattering way possible.
Women without exception don't mind a few compliments, and so she will be super thrilled when you actually sing them to her. Also, don't forget that just cause your male "bros" might think your song is silly, or say it's stupid…who cares?
You're not singing it to them, and you probably are better off not sharing it with any of your macho buddies. Focus only on your girl and what you find special about her and you can't lose!
Write about your feelings. For some people, this is next to impossible, but it's what will put your song in a league of its own, because you're opening up about how you feel.
Some guys can't do it. Can you?
Tell your lady how you feel. Tell her about how you aren't the same bumbling idiot that you were when you met. Tell her how if she was in danger you'd be there in spandex to protect her.
Ok, I'm getting carried away, but you know what I mean. Through the song lyrics, convey it to her how she has helped you in your journey to become a better person.
Give her all the credit, because you know deep down she feels like she deserves it. Where would you be without her?
Don't grovel, but do what they do in classic soul music and get down on your knees and thank the Good Lord you have this woman in your life!
Any woman will love it if she feels she has changed you for the better. And who knows, she probably has!
One very important tip on how to write a love song for a girl is to not plagiarize from another song. I said this earlier, but it's important not to rip off another song for more reason than one.
You don't want your girl to listen to your song and then say "Hey, that's Billy Joel!" Because then she'll start to think not about the message of love you're trying to send her, but rather how you don't know how to write her a love song that captures the one-of-a-kind nature of your loving relationship with her.
So, DO NOT lift sentences or fragments of phrases from other famous love songs. Do not call your song "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word".
Use words and sentences that relate to your experiences with your woman. Specific things that only apply to you and her and your shared history, but of course don't mention the bad stuff unless you can make it sound charming.
Don't sing to her "…and remember when your ex boyfriend came to the restaurant, and I got extremely jealous and made you feel bad. Ohhhhh what a night it waaas…"
Stick to the good times you've shared together. And if you aren't good with words, and can only think of words like "cat" and "bat", get a thesaurus and find some synonyms for common words.
She won't appreciate it if you copy other people's words, and she also won't like it if you sound like a doorknob who has no writing ability.
If you can play the song on guitar, and you know what you're doing, then you're ready to present your song to her. Sing to her in a romantic setting that accentuates the mood you're establishing.
Sing under the moon, or beneath a starry sky, in front of her bedroom window. It might seem like a cliché, but how many people actually go to all that trouble these days? Not too many.
So, make her feel as special as she is by creating a romantic mood and singing your love song to her.
If you want to be bang on and hit the right note with your girlfriend or wife, or even a potential love interest, read the song that you have written to one of your woman friends first, just to see if you are in the right ballpark of being romantic, or if you need to do some editing.
A woman is generally more apt to know what will appeal to another woman. There's a good chance you are missing something, and, believe me, a female friend will tell you exactly what is wrong with your love song, if there is anything wrong with it.
Finally, before you perform it for her, run through it a few times, just to make sure you're 100% sounding good. Then, when it's D day and you have to perform it, give it all you've got.
Show her how much you love her and put your whole heart and soul into the song. Sing it with love and passion, and look deep into her eyes.
If you can do that, no girl in her right mind will be able to resist your charm and that includes your girlfriend or wife. Let me know how it goes!
